Split-Ender Pro 2, is it worth it?

Naturally, the links you come across will contribute to my coffee funds at no additional costs to you-to include Amazon affiliate links.

I was scrolling on IG looking for someone local to trim my split ends when I truly realized how freaking expensive it is! Especially if you are attempting to obtain long, luscious locks…which requires a dusting every what???…..four weeks or so? At $40 a pop that adds up….quick! Anyways, I found this lady on IG who had amazing reviews…suh-weet.

I sent her a quick message and found out she offered split end trimming which is intended to only cut off the splits without actually impacting length at all. SAY WHAAAAAAT?! This was actually a thing??? The price was $70. The fuck???? I honestly just could not bring myself to spend that kind of money.

To the internet I went, searching high and low for various tools designed to target the split ends while being easy enough for my clumsy ass to use. Two alternative methods were popular options, one involved an electric razor(….no effing way) and the second was the twist and trim method (small sections, twist and take scissors to the splits). Noteworthy, I have actually tried the latter method and it does work, but is INCREDIBLY time consuming.

THE INTERNET DID NOT DISAPPOINT…

So eventually the nifty little tool many stylist are starting to implement in their services popped up. IT HAS A NAME…The split-ender….no, I am not joking. A few different companies offer various types, but one brand seemed to be more favored via reviews… Talavera. The one I purchased is called the Split-ender Pro 2. I compared prices everywhere and went ahead with the purchase on amazon for $145.99

Indeed, that was my initial reaction as well. Hear me out though…. let’s just say you go and get a trim every six weeks (like most stylist recommend). That is $40 plus a tip, so about $48 every six weeks. It would take roughly three hair trims for the product to pay for itself. Doesn’t seem so far fetched now, aye?

Let’s talk review….

To start, you should be forewarned that my expectations are extremely and unrealistically high for nearly every single thing in life. So if you are expecting a tool to magically make your hair immaculate overnight, like I was, toss that notion right on out the window. Aint happenin homie. With that being said, the split-ender pro 2 definitely works. Below are some questions I had going into it…

Is it easy to use?

YES, just like a flat iron

Does it make the hair uneven or create chunks of missing hair?

Absolutely not. just pull it straight down and it clips 1/4 of an inch from the split ends that are popped up.

Is it cordless?

Yes, it is.

How is the battery life?

It lasted for two separate trim sessions (I have long and THICK hair).. You could also use it while it is plugged in if you’d like.

Does it actually work?

Yes, it does work; however, it is not a magical tool to fix everything with the swipe of the wand. All good things take time.

What should I know prior to use?

So you need to prep your hair for it. The tool only works if there are no natural oils on your STRAIGHTENED and CLEANED hair. This means wash your hair with shampoo, blow dry your hair, straighten it …all with ZERO product. Then use the split-ender on small sections of hair at a time. It is a little tedious, but worth it. The more you go over a section, the more split ends it will remove, obvi.

Here is a picture of my hair the first time I used it. Disclosure, I went for a long walk outside before doing it, so my hair probably was not as clean or straight as it should have been. Additionally, this was me going almost five months without a single trim. Eeeks.. it still worked though. Left is before and right side is after a quick run through.
